JEWISH COMMUNITY RELATIONS COUNCIL

JCRC enhances the services provided to San Diego’s Jewish community, as well as acts as an important liaison between the UJF, the broader Jewish community, and the greater San Diego community.

JCRC representatives serve on two advisory boards to the Chief of the San Diego Police Department, serve as security coordinators for UJF events, and work closely with law enforcement and the U.S. Secret Service.

The JCRC is the lead Jewish organization in the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster for San Diego and Imperial Counties (“VOAD”). Through involvement in VOAD and together with Jewish Family Service, hundreds of people displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina received assistance locally.  Countless others who relocated to other locales in the south east benefited from these community-wide efforts.

The JCRC remains involved with local Holocaust survivors, coordinating the Community Holocaust Commemoration (Yom HaShoa).  This annual event attracts an audience of 500, receiving wide media attention.

The JCRC provides dedicated, knowledgeable volunteers and lay leaders a place within UJF where their talents and interest in government, media, the interfaith community and Israel will aid in advocacy efforts. They pursue the Federation’s goals of providing food, refuge, education, social services, cultural programs and emergency assistance to Jews in San Diego and around the world.
