On December 1, as part of the nationwide #GivingTuesday effort, Federation partnered with our friends at the Jewish Family Services to raise money for the JFS Foodmobile, a critical service that home-delivers hot, kosher meals to homebound seniors all around San Diego County.  Thanks to the power of JFS – a home delivered hot kosher meal costs only $6. Buying a $6 meal or two sounds like a small thing, but it means a lot to the seniors who receive them. JFS delivers meals and check to make sure the recipient is at home and doing well. Many of our seniors say that receiving meals gives them a reason to get up and get dressed each morning, because "company is coming." It’s amazing that $6 can do all of that!

We set out to secure 1,800 meals for JFS and thanks to the overwhelming generosity of nearly 300 donors, we raised enough to buy over 2,000 meals – what a day of mitzvah! The meals you purchased help older adults thrive in their homes, allowing them to not only have delicious hot, kosher meals delivered right to their doors, but gives them a wonderful opportunity to interact with the amazing JFS Foodmobile volunteers.

Thanks to a generous matching donation provided by Harriet’s Mitzvah Meals and ticket giveaways provided by the San Diego Gulls hockey club and the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus, we were able to reach an unprecedented amount of people in our community to make this goal a reality.
