House of Israel Hosts 67th Annual Lawn Program

By Helene Held - Executive Director - House of Israel

What could be better than an afternoon at Balboa Park celebrating Israel? The House of Israel hosted an enthusiastic crowd when it celebrated Israel at its 67th annual "Lawn Program" on May 31.

Mouth-watering Kosher falafel, Israeli salad, hummus, pita, rice, and baklava were were enjoyed by the local community and international tourists alike. Families picnicked on the grass, singing and clapping along at our Stage Show. We are pleased to have the Jewish Federation of San Diego as our partner in the entertainment portion of our day.

The annual show featured talent from the community, including singers and dancers from The Tarbuton and Kavod Elementary Charter School, the fabulous Zeji Ozeri signing Israeli songs, with a grand finale of Israeli Dancing with Dalya Dalal. Our volunteers guided guests through a tour of the House, and our 3D display of the Dead Sea Scrolls, made entirely of Matzoh and created by Tifereth Israel students, continues to ''wow''.

Tomato plants grown from Israeli seeds were available to take home as a reminder of this great day, and the wonders that Israel continues to contribute to the world. The House of Israel invites your organization to participate in our mutual goal of supporting Israel. Do you have a choir, dance group, or other performing artist? Would your organization like to create a project that could be featured at the House of Israel? Email Helene at info@CottageOfIsrael.com to get involved!
