Hurricane Florence Relief Efforts Continue

As we head into Sukkot, please consider giving to help the growing needs stemming from Hurricane Florence.

Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) is still collecting information about the various Jewish communities that have been affected. Many areas are still evacuated and the threat of flooding continues, so it will take some days before JFNA has a comprehensive picture.

It is known that Temple of Israel and Congregation B’nai Israel in Wilmington, and Temple B’nai Sholem in New Bern, all in North Carolina, have sustained significant damage. Homes of individual families and individuals have flooded.

While the larger Jewish communities have so far escaped widespread damage, it is important that we ensure we can step in to help the smaller communities that have been heavily impacted.

JFNA is in active contact with all of the 6 Federations and 22 Network communities throughout the Carolinas as well as working in close coordination with its partners at the Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies, Nechama, IsraAid, and the Afya Foundation to share information and connect them with local contacts and resources among the communities. As well, the Atlanta Federation has mounted an extensive mobilization to provide refuge for evacuees and the gather relief supplies.

Relief funds will focus primarily on immediate needs for families and individuals affected and then their longer-term recovery needs, including trauma support, case management, and financial assistance. 100% of funds collected goes directly to relief efforts.
