The Hive at Leichtag Commons Presents: This is San Diego Jewry

San Diego Jewish expression has a unique flair that should be celebrated. We have Shabbats on the beach, Rabbis who lead a service in board shorts and then surf with congregants, ocean views as a backdrop while listening to bluegrass Jewish music. The San Diego community offers learning opportunities to infuse Jewish wisdom into topics of feminism and social justice, and we see the diversity of our community as one of our greatest assets.

The theme of “belonging” is an idea we’re exploring at The Hive at Leichtag Commons this year. While Leichtag Commons has always been a welcoming space for the North County community, we want to elevate what this means. To “welcome” implies that you are a guest in our community. To “belong” states that you have co-created this community with us. In short, it cements the notion that this is your community too.

The Hive is kicking off our dive into this theme through our first event, “This is San Diego Jewry,” on Thursday, October 17, which is on the 5th night of Sukkot, a holiday that encourages us to joyously open our doors to everyone around us.

Celebrate with us and expand your connection to the San Diego Jewish community through your senses in an experiential evening. We’ve co-created an interactive, dynamic photo exhibit featuring the diverse faces of our local Jewish community – people that you may know – filled with stories about what makes the San Diego expression unique. We’ll partake in farm-to-table tastings with food intersecting San Diego & Jewish culture; craft essential oils that remind us of home and belonging; and listen to music from a local singer.

We all belong to the San Diego Jewish community. Come and be a part of the experience. You can register here.
