Real-Life Hero is Attending Comic-Con

Every summer San Diego becomes a beacon for comic enthusiast, fan boys, and followers of fantasy and science fiction at Comic-con International. While the genres are varied, many include the classic battle between heroes and villains. To the delight of local San Diegans and convention goers, a slew of diehard individuals choose to attend this gathering dressed as their favorite character.

This year, Comic-Con is welcoming a real-life hero to one of its panels and she is coming dressed as, well, herself.

Ruth Goldschmiedova Sax is a San Diego Holocaust survivor. She is sitting on a panel that is examining that art of propaganda that was seen during World War II and the Holocaust. During that time, art was used as propaganda to motivate individuals to take unspeakable actions against innocent people.

Ruth survived three concentration camps, including Auschwitz, and as one of our Jewish community heroes, shares her stories and experiences as an advocate to ensure the words, “Never Again.” Ruth is being accompanied by her daughter, Sandra Scheller, who is also sitting on the panel. Sandra is the author of “Try to Remember: Never Forget,” a book that chronicles her mother’s experience through the Holocaust.

If you are attending Comic-Con, make sure to check Ruth and her panel on Thursday, July 19th from 1:30-2:30 in Room 4.
