ShinShinim Young Ambassadors Program

This unique cultural exchange program creates a living bridge between the San Diego Jewish community and Israel.

The ShinShinim are Israeli high school graduates participating in a Year of Service Program that offers the opportunity to share their youthful and enthusiastic spirits with the diaspora communities. This JAFI program in partnership with our Federation allows the San Diego community to meet young Israeli ambassadors and connect with them in meaningful ways through a shared sense of collective responsibility, global Jewish discourse, and collective Jewish consciousness.

The ShinShinim share their love and knowledge of Israel through their work with various organizations in our community – including synagogues, schools, and senior centers. They make Israel accessible and help Jews develop a strong attachment to Israel through tangible engagement. This is one of the important ways we are bringing Israeli culture, experiences, and connections to San Diego.

In Partnership with the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI).

ShinShinim Host Family

Become a Host Family

“There is no better way to connect with Israel than person to person. Hosting a ShinShin was a transformative and enriching experience for my family.” – Britney Ewing, past host

What is required of a Host Family?
ShinShinim Hosts can be families with children living at home, “empty-nester” couples, or even grandparents. Hosts must provide a private room in their home for the ShinShin to stay, food for daily meals, and a nurturing home environment for a 3-4 month time period. Each Shinshin is provided with an insured car, a cell phone, health insurance and a financial stipend through Federation and JAFI.
