About this survey: 1,106 Jewish adults, spring 2026, within about 3 points

The eight pillars

Every survey question sits inside one of eight pillars of a flourishing Jewish community. Each score is the share of people who agreed, averaged across all the questions that make up that pillar. Choose a group from the dropdown menu below, then choose the subcategory to the right, to see how it compares with San Diego as a whole. Every figure on this page describes San Diego, not the national average.

Notes on reading this data

How the charts work. The chart follows the question. Seven-point agreement statements are drawn as one bar reading outward from a center line, disagree to the left and agree to the right, with the two totals beside it. Shorter scales are drawn as a single bar divided into its answer categories. Yes-or-no questions are drawn as a ring. Questions with a natural numeric order, such as age or years in San Diego, are drawn as columns. Everything else is drawn as plain bars. When you group the answers, the whole community appears as a faded first row so you can see the difference at a glance.

Rounding. Percentages are rounded to whole numbers and may not total 100. Rows shown in dark blue with bold labels are summary totals calculated by the research team, such as combining “strongly agree” through “somewhat agree” into a single AGREE figure.

Group sizes. The number of people in each group appears beside its name. Groups under roughly 100 people move around a great deal from question to question; read them as a direction rather than a precise figure. Where a cell was too small to report, it is left blank.

What is not shown. Thirteen technical items are omitted: the ten income-bracket follow-up probes, a duplicate age banding, a duplicate race variable, and one open-text list of organization names. Open-ended questions appear as the coded themes the research team assigned, not as individual responses.

The eight pillars. The score for each pillar is the average share of people who agreed across the questions that make up that pillar, on a 0 to 100 scale. The headline figures at the top of this page are the ones Jewish Federations of North America published for San Diego, and every comparison on this page is against San Diego overall rather than against the national average. Recalculating them from the responses below reproduces five of the eight exactly; three land within about three points, because the national analysis uses only the questions asked identically in every wave. Group comparisons are shown as differences in points rather than as separate scores, so that every figure rests on the same calculation.

Questions about the data

Every figure here comes from the Flourishing Community Study, fielded in San Diego in spring 2026.

If a number needs explaining, or you need a cut this page does not offer, Henri ran the study.
