Supporting Students on UCSD Campus
Heidi Gantwerk, President & CEO, Jewish Federation of San Diego

Today’s planned protest at USCD, which is being messaged as the largest anti-Israel protest in the school’s history, has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty for many in our Jewish community.

No student, faculty or staff – regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or background – should ever be made to feel unsafe or unwelcome on their own college campus. Hate and intolerance have no place in public spaces, especially in places of higher education.

Jewish Federation of San Diego stands with our partners at Hillel of San Diego in their efforts to provide a safe haven for the Jewish community, and supports UCSD’s Jewish students and staff in however they choose to respond to today’s protest. We also urge the school’s administration to continue doing everything in its power to protect Jewish students and create an environment that’s inclusive and supportive of all students, faculty and staff.

Federation remains committed to combatting all forms of antisemitism, including anti-Zionism, and enhancing the safety and security of our Jewish community.
